The knob that is numbered 5-0-5 is not the cheater, it is the angle splitter with each division being 0.1 degree, i.e. 0.5 degree up, or down from the 0 position.

The cheater is the unit behind the index wheel, with scales reading from 0 in both clockwise and anticlockwise divisions. When it is on 00, make sure that the pawl is centrally positioned on the threaded section - it can be on 00 when it is as much as 2 full turns left, or right.

Contact Gemcuts at Ballina for a half round dop - they have taken over Gemmasta manufacture.

I would appreciate any Info on the machine .

Please excuse my ignorance. I found the cheater as stated. I found the 00 line up on an adjacent mark. What is the pawl ?

The pawl is the small V shaped piece of metal that engages with the notches on the index wheel. The cheater moves it to left, or right providing fractions of an index adjustment.

If you email me at dirnsw@facetorsguild.com.au I will send you a copy of an article Anthony Fitzgerald wrote on "Tuning the Gemmasta". He is a professional cutter who uses Gemmastas.

    Hi Bruce Copper,

I have just joined AFG and saw your advice on the forum where you mentioned tuning up a Gemmasta Faceting Machine and would like a copy that you mentioned on How to Tune a Gemmasta. Regard Wendy Purdie
