Hi to all
Could anyone tell me if there is a way to use my 96 index gear to cut a stone with a 120 index Garnet Revolution is there a way to calculate the difference or a conversion chart on the web Cheers and thanks for your help
If you use Gemcad, you can enter the design and then just change the Index to 96. you will get some part indices as a result and then you could use your cheater to achieve those. That is the very messy way. The alternative is to convert the design completely, it can be quite involved and may not result in the design ending up very much like the original. What is the design? I may be able to help if you don't use Gemcad.
Hi Wayne,
It's one of Gem Ranger's designes. He is a member of the guild. The design is 10 fold radial symetry cut on a 120 index.
This means you divide each indes by 12 and multiply by 9.6. Very messy as many indexes will be fractional.
The alternative is to make it an 8 fold radial.symerty stone by taking away any indexes greater than 96 from each tier. In this case each facet in a row is 12 away from the next.
The look will change a it and you should test it in Gemcad to make sure it works.
Regards
Gordon.
Wayne,
Here are 3 files, one a straight conversion from 120 index to 96 index in Gemcad. 5 knotched on the 120 index wheel = 4 knotches on the 96 index wheel. As a result Gemcad multiplies each index setting by 4/5ths to arrive at the numbers.
The 96 index file is a re-cut using the settings Gemcad chose. It is approximates the settings.
The 3rd is a conversion from 120 to 96 index by reducing the symmetry from 10 to 8. The facets are longer so the angles would need to be changed to bring the design back to the original.
regards
Gordon
