Using wax for dopping

    I'm interested to give dopping with wax a go I have purchased a stick of black wax and was wondering if this is the right type of wax to use if it is does anyone have a tried tested method of dopping I have heard that if not done correctly stones can fall of a lot easier than epoxy any tip tricks using wax would be greatly appreciated

    Hello Stephen,

    I wrote an article on doping wax which was published in FT a few years back. It explained composition and colour of the various types of wax. Brown wax is preferred for faceting. The best I can suggest is that you find someone who uses wax and ask them to show you their method. Being shown how to use wax is far easier than trying to write about the method. A picture is worth a thousand words, so they say. There are probably other articles in FT on using wax.

    I conducted a search of my digital copies of Facet Talk and there is an excellent article titled Preforming and Dopping written by John Broadfoot in FT 181. There are a number of other articles in other issues of FT
